Man guilty of raping, holding woman hostage

WORTHINGTON, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania man has been convicted of raping a woman held hostage in her home, before holding police at bay with a bomb.

The (Kittanning) Leader-Times reports 39-year-old Keith Kammerdeiner was convicted Thursday of rape, unlawful restraint, risking a catastrophe and other charges for the incident Oct. 11 in Worthington.

Police contend Kammerdeiner bound the woman with zip ties and raped her at knifepoint for hours, then threatened to detonate a homemade bomb if police arrived. The woman escaped while Kammerdeiner was distracted and ran to a market where police were called.

Police surrounded the home only to find Kammerdeiner escaped, though he was arrested the next morning in Pittsburgh, some 30 miles away.

Kammerdeiner must return for sentencing in Armstrong County on Sept. 24.
