YOUNGSTOWN

Police found two guns and ammunition while serving a search warrant at a 743 Browning St. home about 1:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers with the Vice Squad and the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force serving the warrant found a .22-caliber pistol, 65 rounds of ammunition for a .22-caliber rifle, a .380-caliber pistol, a digital scale and two security cameras.

Police issued a summons to the home’s owner, Ashley McGee, 27, for possession of drug paraphernalia, according to reports.

Road closings

YOUNGSTOWN

Streets will be closed from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday for the downtown Youngstown YMCA Triathlon.

They are Commerce Street from Walnut Street to Symphony Place; Walnut Street from East Federal Street to Commerce Street; Symphony Place from Commerce Street to Federal Street; Federal Street from Symphony Place to Belmont Avenue; Hazel Street from Commerce Street to Youngstown State University, with Rayen and Lincoln Avenues closed at Hazel Street only; Mahoning Avenue from and including the Mahoning Street Bridge to West Avenue; and Old Furnace Road from Bears Den to the Mill Creek Park entrance, with local traffic only allowed.

Canfield Road and state Route 62 also will be narrowed from three lanes to two at Lanterman Mill Bridge.

Any secondary streets within the downtown and event area also may be affected and subject to closure.

Butterfly festival

YOUNGSTOWN

South Side Community Gardens, 112 Williamson Ave., will host a butterfly festival from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The project is funded by the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. as part of the USDA People’s Garden grant.

Guests will feed nectar to 12 monarch and 24 painted lady butterflies. Each family will receive a kit containing three chrysalises to take and hatch at home.

Free hot dogs, punch and butterfly cookies will be offered. The Jericho Project Gospel Choir with pastor Rafael will perform. For information, call 330-727-8340.

Public meeting

STRUTHERS

The Annexation, Zoning and Industrial Business Committee will have a public meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in city council chambers at the municipal building, 6 Elm St., to discuss a zone change for 796 Fifth St. from Residential A to Residential C.

If approved, the building, built as a convent for St. Nicholas Parish and which has served as a former Purple Cat location, would be used to house foreign-exchange students attending area high schools.
