Housing Code officers and humane agents removed a dog from a wretched 3631 Neilson Ave. home about 11:15 a.m. Thursday.

Reports state the dog was choking himself on a chain when police arrived and neighbors told police the dog was confined to a second floor window but jumped out and was stuck under the porch.

Reports said the home was deplorable, with no utilities and trash and food and roaches in every room. A company that rents furniture was called to retrieve some of its property that was inside but they advised police all of their property would have to be thrown away because it was ruined by roaches and other dirt.

The homeowner has been cited for several housing code violations, reports said. The dog is safe and was given to the group Huckstar Hogs and Dogs Rescue after the owner signed a release, reports said.
