Canfield Swim Club tops Applewood Swim Team

Canfield Swim Club defeated Applewood Swim Team 323-145 June 19 at Applewood Swim Club for the season opener.

Several pool records were broken at the meet. Individual records were (8 and under freestyle) Eva Johnson with at time of 15.62, Marissa Landers (9-10 freestyle) with a time of 13.86 and Lauren Fitzgerald (9-10 breaststroke) with a time of 18.12. Relay records broken were the girls 9-10 free relay team of Maya Marucci, Jordan Helmick, Lauren Fitzgerald and Marissa Landers and the 11-12 girls free relay team of Mackenzie Hammond, Riley Wilkins, Christina Tucker and Gina Landers.

Triple first place winners were Madison Murphy (8 and under) in the freestyle, butterfly and the free relay, Marissa Landers (9-10) in the freestyle, butterfly and the free relay, Mackenzie Hammond (11-12) in the free relay, breaststroke and 50-meter backstroke; Gina Landers (11-12)- freestyle, freestyle relay and butterfly; James Dietz (13-14)- freestyle, free relay and butterfly; Mallory Allen (15-19)- freestyle, butterfly and free relay and Daniel Bogen (15-19) in free relay, freestyle and 50-meter backstroke.

Top placers in the medley relay were: 8 and under girls-Kate Grdic, Ally Quirk, Parker Wilkins and Gracey Klughart; 9-10 girls-Morgan Schneider, Maddie Hammond, Madison Puskar and Lily Grdic; 15-18 boys-Jared Rothbauer, Matthew Bogen, Adam Weiss and Alec Gaetano.

In the freestyle portion of the competition, top placers were Miles Johnson (9-10 boys) and Morgan Cleevely (13-14 girls).

Winners of the 50-meter backstroke were Madison Cleevely (13-14 girls), Maya Marucci (9-10 girls), Jonathan Gant (11-12 boys) and Ilmir Stefanides (13-14 boys).

Placing first in breaststroke was Ally Quirk (8 and under girls), Ryan Schneider (8 and under boys), Lauren Fitzgerald (9-10 girls), Mickey Velasquez (9-10 boys), Lexi Gaetano (13-14), Lake Bennett (13-14 boys), Sarah Heaven (15-19 girls) and Kyle Anderson (15-19 boys).

Top placers for the butterfly competition were Mickey Velasquez (9-10 boys), Jason Paris (11-12 boys), Sydney Stewart (13-14 girls) and Alec Gaetano (15-19 boys).

Canfield placed first in eight freestyle relays. They were: Eva Johnson, Madeline McCartney, Madison Cleevely and Madison Murphy (8 and under girls); Maya Marucci, Jordan Helmick, Lauren Fitzgerald and Marissa Landers ( 9-10 girls); Mackenzie Hammond, Riley Wilkins, Christina Tucke and Gina Landers (11-12); Jason Paris, Santino Marucci, Dante Flak and Bobby Kutsch (11-12 boys); Sydney Stewart, Natalie Maras, Lexi Gaetano and Morgan Cleevely (13-14 girls); Lake Bennett, Joe Klepec, James Dietz and Ilmir Stefanides (13-14 boys); Olivia Williamson, Briana O’Malley, Mallory Allen and Sarah Heaven (15-19 girls) and Kyle Anderson, Drew Bennett, Alex DiThomas and Daniel Bogen (15-19 boys).
