Campbell teachers set Aug. 26 strike deadline

CAMPBELL — The Campbell Education Association, the union representing Campbell City School teachers, sent a 10-day strike notice for Aug. 26 to the State Employment Relations Board today.

“If the Campbell teachers return to work [on Aug. 26], it would be under unacceptable conditions that were imposed by the school board and their bargaining team,” a news release from the union says. “The CEA remains hopeful that the board of education will direct their bargaining team to go back to the negotiating table and restart negotiations.”

The 93-member union and the Campbell Board of Education have been in contract negotiations since mid-March; a federal mediator was brought in to assist in early May. In late June, the board declared it had reached an ultimate impasse, then implemented its last and best offer on July 1.

On Wednesday, the 93-member union unanimously voted to authorize its bargaining team to issue the 10-day strike notice, if necessary. The bargaining team was not contacted afterward by either the federal mediator or the board of education to restart the bargaining process, according to the news release.
