A former Youngstown police officer was indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury today on charges he solicited a juvenile for sex; he had once investigated her case.
Robert Lodwick, 40, was indicted for two counts of importuning, pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, attempted pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, four counts of illegal use of a minor in a nudity oriented material or performance and four additional counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material or performance.
Lodwick was fired from his job as a detective sergeant after an investigation by the department’s internal affairs division and the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation at the beginning of June. The allegations first came to light when a case worker for the county Children Services Board made a complaint to the sheriff’s office against him.
Lodwick had been assigned to the department’s Family Services Unit before he was promoted and had once handled the girl’s case, police said.
He has been in the Mahoning County Jail since his arrest.
