Tax break approved

Tax break approved

WARREN

The Trumbull County commissioners gave final approval Wednesday to a tax abatement for VEC Inc. to help it carry out a $2.5 million expansion at its Erie Street facility. The abatement, approved by Hubbard City Council on Monday, provides a 75 percent abatement over 10 years.

“You’re talking about 30 great-paying jobs and the potential for more,” Commissioner Frank Fuda said of the expansion.

Economic growth

WASHINGTON

The U.S. economy grew throughout the country from late May through early July, bolstered by the housing recovery, consumers and more factory output.

A Federal Reserve survey released Wednesday showed 11 of the Fed banking districts reported “modest to moderate” growth, while Dallas reported “strong” growth for the second-straight survey.

Housing construction and home prices improved, and consumer spending increased in most districts, fueled by rising car and truck sales. The report says hiring held steady or increased in most districts.
