O’Donold’s Irish Pub, 6000 Mahoning Ave., will host a Tecmo Bowl Tournament on Saturday.

Participants can register from 9 to 10:15 a.m., and the football arcade game tournament will begin at 10:45 a.m. Cost is $25 per player and only 100 players will be accepted to play.

Proceeds will benefit the Fairhaven Foundation, whose mission is to help individuals with developmental disabilities eligible for services from the Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities or other day-habilitation programs.

Three time pro-bowl Cleveland Browns cornerback Hanford “Top Dawg” Dixon will make an appearance. Cash prizes will be given to the first-, second- and third-place winners. For information, contact O’Donold’s at 330-270-2800.

Stolen credit cards

BOARDMAN

Two credit cards reported stolen from Florida were used at the Toys “R” Us on U.S. Route 224 Tuesday evening.

The store manager told police two young males had the credit cards. One of the suspects bought a video game and PlayStation 3 bundle pack with one of the cards. The other suspect tried to buy an iPod touch, but the card was denied, according to a report.

The two males left the store and got into a silver Hyundai 4S with New Jersey license plates and fled in an unknown direction.

The store manager was subsequently notified by Visa that the credit cards were reported stolen from Florida. Police obtained copies of the store’s surveillance video and transactions, and a report was filed.

Ammunition found

YOUNGSTOWN

Police serving a search warrant at a home in the 200 block of Jefferson Street just after 5 p.m. Tuesday found ammunition for two different types of weapons.

Officers from the police department’s vice squad, who were assisted by members of the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force, found three boxes of 7.62 mm rounds, which are commonly used in Russian- or Chinese-style assault weapons, as well as a box of ammunition for a .357 Magnum revolver.

Police also found small amounts of marijuana and cocaine in the home, as well as more than $800 and a surveillance camera.

Arrested on a charge of possession of drugs was Bruce Wright, 51, of Youngstown.

Last learn-to-swims

WARREN

The American Red Cross of Mahoning Valley’s final learn-to-swim classes of the 2013 summer season for children 3-12 are Monday to Aug. 1, at the Warren G. Harding High School pool on Elm Road Northeast.

The cost is $30 per child per session. Payment is required before the first day of class. Preschoolers who cannot stand in minimum shoulder-depth water on the platforms must have a caregiver in the water.

Canfield award

CANFIELD

Canfield schools announced the district received an Energy Pacesetter Award from Cenergistic, a national energy conservation company.

In 30 months, the district has saved $536,961 in energy costs since forming an alliance with Cenergistic.

The Energy Pacesetter Award goes to organizations with that are “setting the pace” for others to save, according to a press release. Rich Archer, the business manager for the district who oversees the energy program said at a board meeting on Wednesday that the primary changes the district has made are behavioral changes. Areas of buildings that are not being used can have the heat or air conditioning lowered, computers are set to turn off at a certain and lights are always shut off when no one is in a room.

“We have come very quickly [to this savings] through the help of staff and the board and the administration,” Archer said. “I am very, very proud . It has certainly diverted money back into the district.”

Roadwork to begin

Washingtonville

Work is set to begin Monday on a $900,000 intersection improvement project in this Columbiana County village. The intersection of East Street and Washingtonville Road will be realigned to match at state Route 14, and Route 14 will be widened to provide turn lanes and a new traffic signal. New sidewalks will also be constructed within the project.

Traffic will be maintained in two 10-foot lanes during construction.

The Ohio Department of Transportation’s contractor for this project is R.T. Vernal Paving Co. Inc. of North Lima. All work is expected to be completed by the spring of 2014.

Child-porn charges

NEW CASTLE, PA.

City police charged a Volant man with 31 counts each of possession of child pornography and criminal use of a computer after they discovered illicit electronic images, including many of an underage household member, according to a report.

Mark A. Looney of 2382 Pa. Route 956 was arraigned and transported to Lawrence County Jail on Friday in lieu of a $10,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is set for July 24.

The Home Savings Charitable Foundation recently donated $5,000 to the American Cancer Society in a ceremony at Squaw Creek Country Club, 761 Youngstown-Kingsville Road.

The Home Savings Charitable Foundation’s support enables the cancer society to continue to make a difference by eliminating cancer as a major health problem, said Jo Ann Crank, ACS regional vice president.
