A man who is a suspect in an attempted-murder case had his request for a lower bond approved Tuesday.

Terrell Vaughn, 35, of Rosemont Avenue, did ask for a personal-recognizance bond. But Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court said he would not allow that for someone facing an attempted- murder charge, as well as one of felonious assault.

Vaughn appeared before Judge Krichbaum for a pretrial hearing, where he waived his right to a speedy trial.

His lawyer, Doug King, asked for the lower bond, saying that his client has a criminal record but, until the present charges, had been trouble free for years. He also said Vaughn lives with one of his children and two others are in from out of town to stay with him.

Vaughn’s bond was $75,000.

Judge Krichbaum agreed to lower the bond, but only to $50,000.

Vaughn was still in the jail as of late Tuesday afternoon, according to jail records.

Assistant Prosecutor Nick Brevata said Vaughn is accused of taking part in the beating of another man in April. Brevata said Vaughn was in a car with three other men and they got in an argument with the victim, who was in another car. The men in Vaughn’s car then fought the victim and beat him severely. Brevata said the victim may have brain damage.

No one else has yet been charged, Brevata said. Vaughn was indicted by a grand jury on a direct presentment in June.

Judge Krichbaum said another pretrial date will be set within the next 30 days.
