LIBERTY

A Girard man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center with life-threatening injuries after a single-car crash on East Liberty Street at Mosier Avenue at 12:49 a.m. Wednesday.

State troopers identified the man as Layne Shumaker, 35.

The Southington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says Shumaker’s vehicle was traveling west on Liberty when it veered off the right side of the road, striking several mailboxes, then overcorrected and traveled onto Mosier.

The vehicle continued off the left side of Mosier, striking a mailbox, fire hydrant, stop sign, several bushes and a home, the patrol said. The crash caused extensive damage to the home.

The accident remains under investigation.
