Boardman police, fire rescue three from collapsed carport

BOARDMAN — One woman and two young children who sustained “significant injuries” were rescued from a carport that collapsed at 110 Lemans Drive here this morning, according to township police and fire authorities.

Police say the driver of a 2006 Toyota Camry accidentally ran into the carport causing the structure to collapse around 10:20 a.m. The victims, police believe, are related to the driver.

The victims were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, but police, at this point, do not have their names or conditions. Police did say the victims were conscious and talking but that significant cuts and scrapes were visible. Specific injuries won’t be known until a later time. Police and fire officials, along with several apartment residents, helped lift the carport enough so the victims could be removed from the wreckage.

Police are still trying to figure out who the driver was as they are receiving conflicting reports.
