Beeghly College of Education makes top 40 list

Youngstown State University’s Beeghly College of Education has been named one of the nation’s top 40 schools for teacher education.

The Beeghly College appears on the list of Top U.S. Colleges and Universities for Teaching recently released by OnlineColleges- Database.org. There are about 1,000 colleges and universities nationwide that offer teacher-preparation programs. Among the other schools making the list were Columbia, Duquesne, Vanderbilt and New York universities and the universities of Arizona and Iowa.

“We are pleased to be recognized for the quality and range of programming offered by our college,” said Dean Charles Howell. “This recognition is a reflection of the hard work, commitment and talent of our faculty and staff, who are committed to the success of all of our students.”

OnlineCollegesDatabase.org creates lists, based on federal and state government data sources, to provide helpful information about colleges, universities, community colleges and vocational schools at the local, city and state level.

The Beeghly College, with an enrollment of nearly 1,300 students, provides undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare teachers, counselors, educational administrators and school psychologists throughout Northeast Ohio, western Pennsylvania and beyond. The college includes the departments of Teacher Education; Counseling, Special Education and School Psychology; and Educational Foundations, Research, Technology and Leadership.

Earlier this year, the Beeghly College received high marks on the first annual Ohio Educator Preparation Performance Report. In the report, graduates of YSU’s Beeghly College were cited for 100-percent passing rates on licensure exams.
