W. Pa. woman to trial for falsifying marriage docs

BEAVER, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania woman must stand trial on charges she lied on a marriage application because detectives say she’s divorced only once after three previous marriages, before marrying yet another man last year.

The defense attorney for 31-year-old Leia Soetaert didn’t immediately return calls for comment today, a day after she waived her right to a preliminary hearing on false swearing charges.

The Beaver County Times reports the New Castle woman was married last July after filling out an application in which she claimed not to have been married before and didn’t answer a question about how any previous marriages ended.

But county detectives say Soetaert was married in Las Vegas in 2004, in Adams County, Colo., in 2008 and in San Jacinto County, Texas, on another occasion. She was legally divorced only in Texas.
