Seven new officers join Youngstown Police Department

Seven new officers joined the ranks of the Youngstown Police Department this morning.

The new hires are Brian Ferreri, Hannah Banks, Thomas Wisener, Timothy Edwards, Stephen Gaetano, Daniel Zakrajsek and Kenneth Garling.

Also this morning the department promoted William Ward to detective sergeant from patrolman. Ward has been on the force since 2000.

The new hires were brought on board to help offset a wave of retirements.

Since Chief Rod Foley took over in 2011, the department has added 24 new officers.
