Drug charges

Officers stopped a dark-colored SUV after it failed to stop at two stop signs on Jackson Street at 1 a.m. Friday and recovered a gun and cash.

The driver, Alden Young, 21, of Youngstown told police he did not have his driver’s license with him, and also could not provide vehicle registration or proof of insurance.

While inventorying the car, officers found a loaded handgun under the passenger seat, $2,461 in cash on the driver’s side floor and 0.4 gram of suspected marijuana. Officers cited Young for carrying a concealed weapon, being a felon in possession of a weapon, failing to provide a license, possessing drugs and for incorrectly operating a vehicle at a stop sign.

In May, Young was charged with felony drug possession and aggravated drug trafficking. Young previously has been cited for excessive speed and drag racing, according to Mahoning County court records.

When police arrived, the attendant told them a customer tried paying for their fuel with the fake money. The attendant determined the money was fake and told the customer to pay for the gas another way, according to a report.

The customer told police she was unaware the money was fake and explained that she owns an auto-sales company where she receives cash from people all day long.
