Yellow Creek Theatre, the outdoor movie venue in Poland Village, opened July 12, for its ninth season of classic films. A project of Town One Streetscapes, Inc., Yellow Creek Theatre screens films on the Route 224 bridge wall located behind and to the left of the Poland Library parking lot every Friday evening at dusk. Patrons are to bring lawn chairs, and parking is available at the library or the Village Town Hall. A brick patio overlooks Yellow Creek with additional lawn seating behind it.
This year the bridge wall was power washed and painted using two coats of masonry paint with a flat finish to enhance the projection of the movies. Last year, extensive patching was done to eliminate the pitting that occurred over the years, so a lot of the prep work was already completed. To be environmentally safe, water from Yellow Creek was used to power wash the wall. Scaffolding was erected, and the job was finished in about a ten-hour day by three individuals — Gerry Gunn, Tim Sokoloff and Jerome Justice. Patrons of Yellow Creek Theatre and even ODOT will surely appreciate their outstanding work.
The 2013 movie season runs from July 12 - August 23, opening with Gentleman’s Agreement, starring Gregory Peck and Dorothy McGuire. For the complete schedule, visit to www.yellowcreektheater.com.
The event is free, and open to the public.
