AUSTINTOWN
Traffic backups are possible along Raccoon Road at the corner of Mahoning Avenue and Four Mile Run Road as Dominion East works on replacing 8,050 feet of a pipeline.
The replacement is a part of a $4 billion project for Dominion’s pipeline infrastructure replacement program. Work began on the project this past Wednesday.
“Weather permitting this project is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 15,” said Neil Durbin, senior communications specialist for Dominion.
Workers will be replacing the bare steel pipeline with a coated steel pipeline, which will prevent corrosion, Durbin said.
This is the only area of Austintown where pipeline will be replaced, but the pipeline replacement along Market Street in Youngstown in also a part of the program.
“These are pipes that were installed back in the 20th century,” Durbin said.
Workers will be replacing the pipes in Austintown Monday through Saturday.
