Poland Presbyterian Church hosted its annual strawberry festival June 28 in conjunction with Celebrate Poland.

The festival, put on by Poland Parish Life Committee, began in 1950. It has served as the main fundraiser for the church since then.

“The parish life funds go to different needs throughout the year,” said Tricia Perry, event coordinator.

One feature of the festival was the strawberry shortcake that was made with homemade biscuits.

The youth also take part in the strawberry festival in a different way.

“The youth group does a hot dog and sausage sale and all of the money raised goes to all of the projects they do throughout the year,” said Perry.

The strawberry festival brings many people from the community to the church.

“It is what some call a ‘bridge event’ because it draws people from outside our church to the church facility,” said Dave Smith, member of Poland Presbyterian Church.

The festival included more than food.

“In the last few years we have offered tours of the old graveyard next to the church and of the church building itself as part of the festival,” said Smith.

Throughout the years the festival has been quite a success.

“We get so many people we have to make sure we have enough food,” said Perry. “We often run out at the very end.”
