Daulton has brain cancer: Former Phillies All-Star catcher Darren Daulton has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

A statement released by Philadelphia radio station 97.5 The Fanatic says Daulton has glioblastoma. The American Brain Tumor Association calls that form of cancer “highly malignant.”

Daulton had hosted a nightly radio show at the station before doctors found two tumors on his brain on June 27. He had an operation to remove them on July 1.

The statement says Daulton has returned to his home near Clearwater, Fla., to continue recuperating with his immediate family and friends. He will eventually begin treatments there.

Daulton played 14 1/2 of his 15 major league seasons with Philadelphia and was a key part of the Phillies’ NL championship team in 1993. He finished his career with the 1997 World Series champion Florida Marlins.

Lawyer says Gaudin was ill: The lawyer for a San Francisco Giants pitcher accused of touching a woman’s breast at a Las Vegas hospital earlier this year says his client was ill at the time.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports30-year-old Chad Gaudin was arrested Jan. 27, although the case didn’t attract media attention at the time.

Police say Gaudin was drunk when he approached a 23-year-old woman on a gurney at Desert Springs Hospital, told her she was gorgeous and touched her face and breast.

Gaudin’s lawyer, Dominic Gentile, says the athlete was suffering acute renal failure and experiencing symptoms including confusion and disorientation.

Gentile says other eyewitness accounts would exonerate the player.

Gaudin has pitched as a starter and in relief. He’s 2-1 this year with a 2.44 ERA.

Harvey to skip start vs Pirates: New York Mets right-hander Matt Harvey will skip his scheduled start on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Manager Terry Collins made the announcement before the Mets’ series finale Wednesday with the San Francisco Giants. He says a minor blister has recently bothered the rookie.

Collins says Harvey will throw limited innings this season, but the number hasn’t been determined.

Right-hander Carlos Torres (0-1, 0.51 ERA) will replace him.

A-Rod to meet with investigators: Alex Rodriguez says he’ll have a day off from his injury rehab assignment Friday — leaving him free for a possible meeting with Major League Baseball investigators.

The New York Yankees third baseman is scheduled for the interview as part of baseball’s probe of the closed anti-aging clinic Biogenesis, which is accused of distributing banned performance-enhancing drugs. Rodriguez has said he used PEDs while with Texas from 2001-03 but has denied using them since.

While it may take a long time for MLB to sort out whether A-Rod and others will be suspended, his short-term focus is on his comeback from hip surgery last winter.
