Butch and McCree hired for joint paving in Austintown, Canfield, Boardman
BOARDMAN
The joint paving program among Austintown, Canfield and Boardman townships is moving forward, and work is expected to finish within three months.
Boardman trustees voted 3-0 Wednesday to approve Butch and McCree Paving, Hillsville, Pa., as the project’s contractor. Butch and McCree bid the lowest at $9,700 per day milling with a $130.40 unit of asphalt for a total of $1,084,582.
“We hope everybody’s pleased with what the outcome is, and we’re going to move forward from here,” said Larry Wilson, Boardman road superintendent.
Wilson said the next step in the process is to meet with representatives from Butch and McCree Paving to evaluate drawings to determine what township roads will be worked on first.
“We let them kind of take a lead on that, as to where they want to go first and where they want to go last,” Wilson said.
Wilson added the contractor should have already evaluated each township and should know what the order is going to be.
Once that is finished, inspectors from each township will meet with the contractor and work will begin.
“We’re doing more than $1 million worth of paving,” Wilson said. “We’re hoping to have it all done probably some time in September.”
Tony Bettile and Marie Cartwright, Canfield trustees, attended the meeting to discuss the project with Boardman trustees and the contractor.
Cartwright added that she and Bettile planned to discuss the addition of another road they want paved in Canfield. She has not seen a total breakdown of the project yet and didn’t have a list of the planned roads to be paved in Canfield.
“We wanted to have that discussion with them today and to show support of the joint program,” Cartwright said.
Discussion for the joint program began about a year ago and would allow more roads in each township to be paved for less money, officials said. Each township committed money and the total amount was the estimated cost of the project.
