A Youngstown man was sent to the hospital after being shot on the 1100 block of Wilson Avenue on the East Side.
Police still are investigating who shot 24-year-old Juan Santana of Youngstown around 4:30 p.m. Monday.
The Vindicator’s news partner, TV-21 WFMJ, reported that the victim was sent to St. Elizabeth Health Center and was in stable condition. The victim told police he knew who shot him, according to WFMJ. No arrest had been made as of press time Monday.
Teens’ drug charges

Officers responded about 9:30 p.m. Sunday to 13th Street after a report of a suspicious vehicle in front of a residence. The car began to drive away and failed to stop at a stop sign.
Officers approached and smelled marijuana, and also noticed suspected marijuana residue on the seat.
The 16-year-old driver said that both she and the 17-year-old female passenger didn’t have anything illegal in the car.
But officers found a pipe and a bag with suspected marijuana. They also found a scale, along with four other bags of suspected marijuana.
Police also seized $1,366 and the driver’s cellphone, which had text messages related to drug purchases.
The girls were transported to the Juvenile Justice Center. The driver is charged with drug trafficking, possession of drug paraphernalia, operation of vehicle at stop signs and failure to illuminate the rear license plate, while the passenger is charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Sentenced to prison

An 18-year-old who prosecutors say was one of the leaders of the South Side based H-Block street gang was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday by Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge Maureen Sweeney.
Ruben Sanchez, 18, of Hilton Avenue, was sentenced on the charges of illegal possession of weapons because of a previous conviction, felonious assault and participating in a criminal organization.
He entered the pleas in June, and attorneys agreed upon a 10-year sentence.
The gang’s base of operations is around Hilton Avenue. Another gang member indicted with Sanchez is expected to face trial in October.
Guns taken from home

Police reports said several guns were taken from an East Avondale home on Sunday evening.
Police were called to the home about 10 p.m. The 71-year-old homeowner told them he left at 6 p.m. and when he came back at 9 p.m., he found a window open in a back bedroom and the house ransacked.
Missing are two .22-caliber rifles; two shotguns, a .16-gauge and a .20-gauge; a 9mm semiautomatic pistol; and a BB gun, as well as two flat-screen TVs, $400 in cash and $135 in coins.
Woman hits parked car
BOARDMAN
A Boardman woman is charged with OVI, hit-and-run and failure to maintain reasonable control after police reported that she hit a parked car before fleeing the scene Saturday morning.
Karli R. Petti, 34, of Afton Avenue was pulled over on Cook Avenue. Police noticed she had considerable damage to the front end of her 2004 Olds-mobile.
Petti told police she knew she hit a vehicle but was scared and didn’t know what to do. When she stepped out of the vehicle, police noticed she was having trouble balancing herself. She was confused and her speech was delayed, according to a report.
Petti told police she left her home to buy cigarettes and admitted that she and some friends drank several beers earlier in the evening at Los Gallos Mexican restaurant.
She refused to take field-sobriety tests and a Breathalyzer, was processed and released to a family member.
Street to be closed

North Walnut Street between Rayen Avenue and Wood Street will be closed from noon Wednesday to 7 a.m. Monday for the Greek Summerfest at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
