Animal Welfare League hires executive director

Kerry S. Pettit was recently named executive director for the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County.

Pettit has spent 24 years in the animal field, including her most recent job as animal- control-operations supervisor for the Henderson, Nev., Police Department.

She also served as animal-control officer there and was animal handler for Lion Photo Studios in Las Vegas and water quality diver/education narrator for Sea World of Ohio.

She has a bachelor of arts degree from Youngstown State University.

“Kerry brings such great strengths to this position and the Animal Welfare League,” said Dr. Jeff Williams, president of the AWL board of directors. “Her background, knowledge and experience are invaluable as we enter into the next stage of opening the new shelter.”

The AWL plans to have a grand opening Sept. 6 for its 21-acre, $4.5 million expansion at its new Animal Welfare Care & Education Center on Youngstown-Kingsville Road in Vienna.
