Spikes extend Scrappers’ skid

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ losing streak reached five on Sunday after the State College Spikes overcame an early three-run deficit for a 12-3 romp.

Josh McAdams and Juan Herrera both doubled in the Scrappers’ three-run third inning. But the Spikes (12-8) bounced back with seven runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings for a 7-3 lead.

Luis Lugo (1-2) suffered the loss for the Scrappers (7-14), giving up six hits and four runs in five innings. He received little help from the bullpen as Harold Guerrero surrendered five runs before being lifted for Manuel Carmona who gave up three more.

David Washington drove in three runs for the Spikes and Cesar Valera had three hits and scored three runs.

Jimmy Bosco and Mason Katz each had two hits.

For the Scrappers, Juan Romero had two hits.
