PEEBLES, Ohio
Investigators say remains found in southwest Ohio may be those of an infant.
Adams County Sheriff Kim Rogers said Friday that his office received information this week alleging an infant died at a home in Peebles and was buried there.
Rogers said a search of the property disclosed remains that will be sent to a coroner’s office for examination.
County Prosecutor David Kelley says 51-year-old Keiven Merz and 32-year-old Jane Merz have been charged initially with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.
Authorities couldn’t confirm whether Merz and his estranged wife have attorneys yet. Their relationship to the purported infant wasn’t released.
Rogers and Kelley say it isn’t clear how or when the infant purportedly died.
Peebles is about 60 miles southeast of Cincinnati.
