Shepherd of the Valley hosted a community card party June 26 at its Poland location, 301 W. Western Reserve Road.

The community card party started with a small group of residents in 2007 and has since opened up to the community.

“We have players come as far away as Austintown and Calcutta,” said Elida Cowles, marketing director for Shepherd of the Valley.

Attendees are invited to start a group of four to play, or join an already existing group that needs more members.

Cowles said the card party is a gathering of friendship.

“They enjoy meeting other people from the community,” said Cowles.

A group consisting of Jo Amendolea, Rose Buzzacco, Isabel Schiavone and Ann Koczwara(Poland) has been playing together for four years. Their favorite game to play is 500 Bid.

Buzzacco comes to the card parties to see her friends.

“I like getting to see them,” said Buzzacco.

Koczwara said the parties are just fun.

“We have a lot of laughs,” said Koczwara.

In addition to the card play, Shepherd of the Valley offered a buffet lunch at the cost of $6.

Card parties are offered once a month at Shepherd of the Valley-Poland. The next card party will be July 25 with lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. and card play at 1 p.m.
