More than 55 campers attended Vacation Bible School at Holy Family Parish June 24-28.
The theme for the event was “Kingdom Rock: Stand Strong for God,” which carried a medieval feel to it. Each day a different theme was taught. Campers learned that God’s love, family and friends, prayer, trusting God and the Bible are ways to stand strong.
Karen McCreary, director of Vacation Bible School, said Vacation Bible School serves two purposes.
“We put on VBS so the kids can have fun and learn about God at the same time,” said McCreary.
The event is offered annually and includes games, music and experiments for children ages kindergarten through fourth-grade.
Lisa DiTommasso, a volunteer at the camp, explained the importance of friends and family to second-grade students after they had completed an activity.
“Strength in friendship helps us move along much easier,” said DiTommaso.
McCreary said that God is emphasized throughout the campers daily routines.
“We try to make it fun and hopefully something they learn will stick with them,” said McCreary.
Marnie Kelty, Director of Religious Education, hopes the experience gives children a deeper faith and deeper trust in God.
“I hope they learn that not only do they have God, but they also have friends and family to help them through trials,” said Kelty.
The Vacation Bible School concluded with a picnic sponsored by the Holy Family Knights of Columbus.
