The Canfield Soccer Club kicked off and celebrated the start of its recreational season at its annual players clinic June 22.

The clinic was offered at the Herbert Road Fields under the direction of Phil Simone, Canfield High School boys and girls soccer coach, girls junior varsity coach Aleesha Denmeade, the boys junior varsity coach and members of the soccer teams.

“The high school coaches, players and our recreational players are all working together to further soccer in Canfield. This is where training for high school soccer starts,” said Brian Governor, Canfield Soccer Club president.

Stations were set up throughout the fields for the 130 players of all ages who spent time learning foot skills, practicing drills and playing games under the guidance of the high school players.

“This clinic is meant to teach the players skills, but it is also designed for the players to have fun. You gotta have fun,” said Governor.

Players were encouraged to wear their recreational uniforms to the clinic, which is included in the registration for the recreational season.

At the end of the clinic, Governor gathered the players.

“Everyone give a big thank you to the high school boys and girls soccer players and coach Simone for helping us today. We appreciate all they do,” Governor said.
