Additional charges filed against man shot, killed in Boardman

BOARDMAN — Township police filed three additional charges against Daniel A. Fitton, Jr., the Boardman man who was shot and killed by police Wednesday night in a standoff at an apartment where he and his girlfriend lived.

Fitton, Jr. was initially charged with inducing panic, and as a part of the ongoing investigation, police added domestic violence, aggravated assault and felonious assault charges to the list.

Police Chief Jack Nichols said they're not really charges because police can't charge a dead person, but that it was done to help police complete the investigation, which is still ongoing.

Nichols said he expects to release next week the names of the officers on paid administrative leave who shot into the apartment Wednesday resulting in Fitton's death.
