POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Liberty and Girard:
LIBERTY
June 26
Arrest: Youngstown police handed 40-year-old Lenzell D. Crum to Liberty authorities. Crum, of 806 Palmer Ave., Youngstown, was wanted on a township warrant.
Burglary: To a home in the 2900 block of Roosevelt Drive, though police found no signs of forced entry. A 42-inch TV was taken.
Arrest: Authorities answered a possible domestic situation on Hadley Avenue and charged 54-year-old Dale M. Thompson, 3198 Hadley, Liberty, with obstructing official business and resisting arrest. Thompson, who was not charged with domestic violence, was hiding in a closet and struggled with police, they said.
June 27
Arrest: A traffic stop near Mansell Drive led to the arrests of Chelsea Delo, 22, of Clintonville, Pa., on charges of endangering children and possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia, along with Thomas Custer, 28, of 1268 Barkeyville Road, Grove City, Pa., on a charge of possession of drug-abuse instruments. A wide assortment of syringes and a large number of bindles commonly used to sell heroin were found close to two small children in the back seat, police said.
Vehicle theft: A 1994 Yamaha motorcycle was stolen in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive.
Aggravated menacing: A Louise Lane man told police another man called and threatened to harm the accuser and others in the home.
Aggravated assault: An Austintown woman alleged her intoxicated boyfriend, of Virginia Trail, choked her when she took a set of car keys from him, then tossed her down a set of basement steps, breaking her clavicle bone. A short time later, he struck the accuser’s head three or four times on a vehicle when she informed him their relationship was over, a report showed.
Theft: A $300 gas-powered generator was removed from a garage in the 1200 block of Townsend Avenue.
Auto theft: Police received a complaint about an unwanted person in the 2900 block of Oakland Drive, where they apprehended 62-year-old Phillip G. Tunanidas, no address listed, and charged him with receiving stolen property. Tunanidas was in a 1988 Mercury vehicle that had been stolen in Pennsylvania, a report said.
Arrest: Officers dealt with a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, before arresting 38-year-old Ellis S. Patterson, 2014 Benton St. SE, Warren, on a Bazetta Township warrant.
June 28
Drugs: Officers near state Route 11 stopped 23-year-old Deion R. White, who faced one count of drug abuse, after saying White, of 919 Cynthia Court, Niles, had a partially smoked marijuana cigar.
Identity fraud: A Church Hill-Hubbard Road man told police he received a letter from a collection agency regarding a 2011 state income-tax return he believes someone had fraudulently filed.
Drugs: Elbert Shuler, 28, of 610 Parkcliffe Ave., Youngstown, was taken into custody after having been pulled over on Belmont Avenue. Shuler faced charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia when, authorities said, he admitted having 8 grams of suspected marijuana and a scale.
Burglary: Took place at an apartment in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive. A 50-inch flat-screen TV was stolen.
Drugs: A traffic stop near Gypsy Lane led to the arrests of 26-year-old William E. Crockett Jr., 737 E. Avondale Ave., Youngstown, on a misdemeanor count of possession of dangerous drugs after police said two pills were found, as well as 28-year-old Andre K. Springs Jr., 46 W. Princeton Ave., Youngstown, on a charge of obstructing official business. Springs, who also was wanted on a warrant, gave a phony name, authorities said.
Fraud: A Hadley Road man learned his stolen debit card was used to fraudulently buy $513 worth of merchandise and services in Warren and Cortland.
Drugs: Police investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue before charging 38-year-old Dawn E. Lee, 1633 Elm St., Youngstown, with possession of a drug-abuse instrument after saying Lee, who also was wanted on a felony probation-violation charge, had a hypodermic needle. Also taken into custody was Candice M. Jackson, 22, of 2838 Dearborn Ave., Youngstown, on a warrant from Hermitage, Pa., charging receiving stolen property.
June 29
Arrest: Police responded to a disturbance at an East Liberty Street motel, where they charged 25-year-old Brittney M. McGee with disorderly conduct after saying McGee, of 743 Browning Ave., Youngstown, refused to leave while demanding a refund, then continually used profanity and failed to calm down.
Drugs: A traffic stop in the 3100 block of Logan Way resulted in two drug-abuse counts against Matthew A. Dubose, 28, of 433 Catalina Ave., Youngstown, and one such charge against Dwaune R. Riggins of Pickerington, Ohio. Dubose had two grams of suspected heroin and 16 Percocet tablets in his shoes; Riggins had a bag containing 2 grams of suspected marijuana, a report showed.
Burglary: To a home in the 1700 block of Naylor-Lloyd Road, from which a 32-inch flat-screen TV was removed.
Theft: Jennifer F. Fearer of 43 Halls Heights Ave., Youngstown, was issued a summons after police said the 40-year-old Fearer stole two 24-ounce cans of beer from Walmart.
June 30
Counterfeit: A fake $10 bill was passed at the Giant Eagle pharmacy, 4700 Belmont Ave.
Breaking and entering: Authorities received a tip about someone having broken into Station Square Restaurant, 4250 Belmont Ave., then charged 54-year-old Danny W. Ligibel with breaking and entering and vandalism. A surveillance camera showed the Akron man breaking into a cooler and damaging its door and lock, a report said.
Drugs: A vehicle check on Ravine Drive led to the arrest of 24-year-old Dominick J. Demarco, 42 Florist Ave., Youngstown, on charges of possession of criminal tools, drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Found were a suspected marijuana pipe, papers commonly used to roll marijuana, 23 grams of suspected marijuana and a digital scale, police said.
Arrest: Suspicious activity in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive drew the attention of authorities, who charged a 16-year-old Youngstown boy with juvenile offenses and obstructing official business after saying the teen provided false information regarding his name, age and residence.
GIRARD
June 27
Assault: A South Davis Street woman told officers another woman threw a rock and struck her right foot after the accuser told the woman to leave her property.
Menacing: A Mosier Road man said another man tried to goad the accuser into a fight as part of a pattern of ongoing problems between them.
Criminal damaging: A woman in the 400 block of East Broadway Avenue found a BB hole in her garage door.
June 28
Burglary: Occurred in the 200 block of Dearborn Street, where a $500 laptop computer was taken.
June 29
Attempted burglary: Police arrived at The Glass House, 16 N. State St., and saw that the front door had been heavily damaged.
Breaking and entering: Someone entered a vacant residence in the 200 block of East Broadway Avenue and damaged several walls, as well as ceiling fans and doors.
June 30
Warrant: Officers serving a warrant to 20-year-old Isaac Jones at his residence, 205 E. Main St., Girard, were to file a charge of resisting arrest after saying he led them on a foot pursuit. Jones had not been apprehended at the time of the report, however.
Arrest: A suspicious person on Church Hill-Hubbard Road caught officers’ attention before they took into custody 46-year-old John E. Howard, 751 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, Girard. Howard was wanted on an Ohio State Highway Patrol warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a charge of having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
Menacing: A South Market Street woman said a neighbor implied she would have a relative harm the accuser.
Theft: Ira J. Rihel, 31, of 304 Cherry St., Niles, was charged with stealing $43 worth of undergarments and other items from Dollar General, 501 Church Hill Road.
July 1
Criminal damaging: A car in the 500 block of North Avenue was found with minor paint damage to its passenger side.
