Former Ohio police officer killed in Afghanistan

EATON, Ohio (AP) — Former colleagues say a man who had served as a police officer and sheriff’s deputy in Ohio has been killed in Afghanistan, where he was working for a private contractor.

Kurt Muncy’s former co-workers at the Preble County Sheriff’s Office and Eaton Police Department confirmed his death Tuesday to The Dayton Daily News. Muncy worked as a contractor for DynCorp International, training police in Afghanistan.

The Associated Press reported that Taliban attackers on Tuesday set off a truck bomb outside a NATO supplier’s compound, resulting in a gunbattle that left a dozen people dead on outskirts of Kabul.

DynCorp International confirmed the casualties, but couldn’t provide details.

Former colleagues said Muncy was an Eaton officer from 1995 to 2001, and worked for sheriff’s office afterward.
