When the Rotary Club of Warren met for its President’s Night Dinner on June 26 at DiLucia’s Banquet Center, Lillie Johnson received the Les Stauffer Community Service Award.
Stauffer was a Rotarian for more than 50 years. The award acknowledges longtime service to the Warren community and is given only to those who are not Rotary members. Past recipients include Jim Economos, John Taylor, Dr. Ralph “Jim” Snelson and Shari Harrell.
Johnson’s leadership and community service have earned her accolades, including the following: Teacher of the Year for Warren City Schools in 1983-1984; Citizen of the Year honor from the Eastern Ohio Unit of the National Association of Social Workers, I.B. Taylor Voluntary Service Medal in 1987, Trumbull County African American Achievers Association inductee, Woman of Achievement Award from YWCA of Warren, American Cancer Society Pink Ribbon Gala honoree in 2003, New Jerusalem Fellowship Church honoree for community work, and 2007 Community Star Award.
Along with Cliff Johnson, her late husband, she was honored in 2007 with the Ohio Hospital Association’s Meritorious Service Award, the 2008 Valley Legacy Outstanding Senior Award, the Ohio Department of Aging’s Joined Hearts in Giving Award in 2009, and the Youngstown Area Alliance of Black School Educators and Associated Neighborhood Centers in 2010.
At the dinner, Warren Rotary presented a Distinguished Rotarian Award to Michael Bollas and Rotarian of the Year Awards to Cheryl Oblinger and John Campolito.
