Jammers beat Scrappers in ninth

Edwin Espinal hit a one-out sacrifice fly to score Jin-De Jhang with the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the Jamestown Jammers defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 1-0 in a New York-Penn League game Monday at Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park.

Jhang hit a one-out single and Danny Collins doubled to advance Jhang to third to set up the deciding at-bat.

Cody Ferrell and Nellie Rodriguez each had two hits for the Scrappers (6-9), who batted 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine batters.

Kenny Mathews started and gave up one hit over two innings, striking out one. Cole Sulser added three innings of three-hit relief with two strikeouts and Alexis Paredes pitched the next two innings, giving up a hit and a walk while striking out two.

Trevor Franks (0-1) got the loss, giving up two hits in 12/3 innings with two strikeouts.

Kevin Kleis (1-0) got the win for the Jammers (8-5). Jhang had two hits.
