POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Jan. 23

Theft: Sara R. Schwartz, 27, of 422 Fifth St., Struthers, was taken into custody on a warrant accusing her of having stolen $287 worth of merchandise from Giant Eagle, 3130 Center Road.

Burglary: To a residence in the 7800 block of Indian Trail through the front door. One hundred ninety feet of copper piping was stolen.

Jan. 25

Auto theft: A 2011 Buick LaCrosse was stolen from a home in the 6500 block of North Carolina Place.

BOARDMAN

Jan. 25

Assault/stolen property: Police on a traffic stop in the 7000 block of Market Street took Christopher H. Redd, 1043 Kenilworth Ave. SE, Warren, into custody on an assault warrant after his girlfriend, of Jennette Drive, alleged Redd had squeezed her neck, kicked her several times in the leg and stomach and tossed two plastic bottles containing soda, striking her left biceps area. Redd, 25, also was charged with receiving stolen property, a felony, after officers said the vehicle’s license plates had been reported stolen.

Arrest: Charles A. Mitchell, 33, of 717 Birch Hill Drive, Youngstown, surrendered on one count each of misuse of a credit card and receiving stolen property after a Youngstown man learned his stolen card had been used to make $855 worth of unauthorized purchases in Boardman and Youngstown.

Jan. 26

Theft: Carmine Sammartino Jr. of 3001 Julian St., Youngstown, and Nadine L. Walker of 409 Rockdale Ave., Boardman, both 29, were charged with stealing male- enhancement pills, makeup and a wall poster from Walgreens Pharmacy, 7295 Market St. Sammartino faced an additional charge of possession of drug paraphernalia when, police said, a suspected crack-cocaine pipe was found.

Identity theft: A Ranier Trail woman learned an account had been opened with her Social Security number and birthdate but without her consent.

Theft: Samantha J. Gatte, 18, of 22 Shadyside Drive, Boardman, and Tamara M. Chatman, 19, of 23 Hilton Ave., Youngstown, were charged in the theft of $414 worth of women’s clothing from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A Salem man reported the theft of his $450 cellphone while in the 300 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A $48 hair-straightening device was stolen from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.

Assault: A woman alleged a worker for a South Avenue eatery pushed her toward a door during a confrontation about her children’s sitting at a table reserved for someone else. The employee said the woman had been verbally abusive with him and knocked several condiments off a table.

Robbery: An employee of Macy’s in Southern Park Mall told authorities two boys fought with and punched him in the face as he tried to detain them after a shoplifting situation. The accuser had slight swelling to the affected area.

Burglary: To a residence in the 100 block of Terrace Drive after someone broke a rear window. Thirty audio and video-game cartridges, a Sony PlayStation 3 system, a wristwatch and numerous other items were stolen, for an estimated loss of $3,900.

Theft: Lauren J. Hanlon, 52, faced a theft charge before being released on a summons. Hanlon, of 80 Alburn Drive, Boardman, was accused of taking $357 worth of DVDs from Target in the Shops at Boardman Park.

Jan. 27

Stolen property: Officers took custody of 22-year-old Kathryn M. Unick, 414 Meadowbrook Ave., Boardman, who faced a felony receiving-stolen-property charge after a family member had discovered about $3,200 worth of jewelry missing from her residence.

Theft: A woman in her mid- to late 30s stole $100 worth of property from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.

Identity fraud: A Shields Road woman found out her debit card had been used without permission to make two transactions totaling about $91.

Criminal damaging: An 11-year-old boy reportedly used a fire extinguisher to damage a $70 pair of boots that belong to a Bonnie Place woman.

Harassment: An Erie Street woman said a man sent her seven unwanted text messages.

Misuse of a credit card: A Colleen Drive man discovered his stolen credit card had been used for slightly less than $100 worth of unauthorized activity.

Bad check: A manager with Smoker Friendly, 4927 Market St., told officers a man in his 50s tried to buy two cartons of cigarettes with a check that proved to be fraudulent.

Arrests: Authorities on South Avenue pulled over 22-year-old Andrew M. Skinner, 7544 Market St., Boardman, and 27-year-old Leon A. Williams, 1620 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, then charged both with obstructing official business. Williams intentionally gave police a driver’s license that belonged to Skinner, who provided a false name and Social Security number, a report showed.

Jan. 28

False alarms: An Annawan Lane woman told police someone called authorities falsely claiming she and another person had overdosed on drugs. Later, Youngstown firefighters reported having received an anonymous call about a structure fire at the residence, which proved false, a police report said.

Arrest: A traffic stop near Wilda Avenue resulted in 21-year-old Jessica S. Quick’s arrest. Quick, of 3814 Southern Blvd., Youngstown, was wanted on a warrant from Campbell charging her with disorderly conduct.

Theft: Ashlyn M. Vlassich of 1296 Northeast River Road, Lake Milton, was charged. The 26-year-old Vlassich was accused of stealing roughly $135 worth of merchandise from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: A swimming-pool pump and a dishwasher were removed from a vacant home in the 100 block of Runnemede Drive.

Harassment: A Gillian Lane man said a business made 27 unwanted calls to his residence.

Burglary: Occurred in the 1800 block of Basil Avenue after someone pried open the front door. Stolen was a $500 laptop computer.

Recovered property: Police on Southern Boulevard investigating a vehicle with slight front-end damage found out the car had been stolen in Washington, Pa.

Jan. 29

Theft: David N. Montemarand, 39, of 775 Canterbury Lane, Boardman, and 54-year-old Charles W. Paige Jr., 435 E. Boston Ave., Youngstown, were pulled over, then charged with having stolen seven food products from Walmart.

Drugs: Someone tossing litter from a vehicle caught the attention of police on Mathews Road, who charged a 17-year-old township girl with two felony and two misdemeanor counts each of drug possession and who cited the teen on charges of possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia after saying contraband found included small bags of suspected cocaine and marijuana, a folded piece of paper containing suspected heroin and several prescription pills. Also, officers cited Jourdan D. Mink, 19, of 1700 Lynn Mar Ave., Boardman, when, they said, a suspected marijuana pipe also was found.
