Opera company receives grants

Opera Western Reserve recently received grants from the following:
The Warren P. Williamson Jr. Fund of The Youngstown Foundation, $1,000, for general operating expenses.
Dominion Resources Services Inc., $1,000; and the Aimee and Lulu Seidel Foundation, $1,000, for OWR’s educational outreach program, which is performed by its young-artists troupe and offered free of charge to area schools.
‘Bye Bye Birdie’ at Stage Left
LISBON
Stage Left Players’ production of “Bye Bye Birdie,” the Tony Award-winning musical satire, opens tonight and runs for two weekends at the company’s theater at 234 E. Lincoln Way.
The show is directed by Nathan Kuhns with musical direction by Jodine Pilmer. Tickets are $12 ($10 for seniors and students). Curtain times are 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Call 30-831-7249 for reservations.
Stop-smoking class at PSU campus
Sharon, Pa.
Penn State Shenango is hosting a free, six-session Smoking Cessation class this spring, facilitated by staff from the Behavioral Health Commission of Mercer County and the Northwest Pennsylvania Tobacco Cessation Program.
The first session will be Feb. 1, from noon to 1 p.m., in Sharon Hall, room 105, located on the Penn Avenue campus, downtown. The final session will be March 1.
