Poland swimmers excel at AAC championships
Neighbors | Submitted.The Poland Seminary High School swim team took second-place overall at the AAC league championships at Hubbard community pool Jan. 12.
On Jan. 12, the Poland Seminary High School swim team competed in the AAC meet at the Hubbard community pool.
There were seven teams competing in the conference championships. The Poland girls team earned 196 points and placed second overall. The boys earned 130.5 points, placing fourth.
Several Poland swimmers finished in the top 10.
For the girls squad, the 200 medley relay team of Jaci Mullally, Maddie Evan, Kaelyn Weitzman and Marissa Melillo finished second. Placers in the 50 freestyle were Melillo (fourth), Mullally (fifth) and Connie VanScoter (seventh). In the 100 freestyle, Mullally (fourth), Melillo (seventh), VanScoter (eighth) finished in the top 10.
Glaros was eighth in the 500 free, while the 200 free relay team of Mullally, Weitzman, Melillo and Evan finished second. In the 100 backstroke, Evan (second) and Weitzman (fifth) earned top places, while Celia Melilo took 10th in the 100 breaststroke.
Placing in the top 10 for the boys were the 200 medley relay quartet of Matt Robich, Matt Misko, Sam Cowles and Anthony Lattanzio, who took third. Placing in the 50 freestyle were Robich (fourth) and Cowles (sixth). Robich was sixth in the 100 freestyle. The team of Kyle Kirin, Brendan Gage, Cowles and Robich was fourth in the 200 free relay, while Misko (second) and Lattanzio (third) placed in the 100 breaststroke.
