2 jailed after cop chase in Warren

WARREN

A woman was taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital, and two men were taken to the Trumbull County jail after a chase that ended with a crash and foot chase.

Sgt. Greg Hoso spotted a car driven by Chance Wells, 22, of Laird Avenue Northeast, moving erratically on Washington Street Northeast near North Park Avenue about 1:30 p.m. Friday and followed it.

He spotted the car a short time after a woman reported being pushed to the ground and robbed at gunpoint at Chase Bank, 1160 W. Market St.

The thief wearing a mask took her silver Ford Fusion and bags carrying bank deposits.

Hoso said the sport-utility vehicle he was following didn’t match the description of Fusion, but he considered it possible the robber from the bank had changed vehicles.

The SUV traveled east on Woodland and ran a red light at Laird Avenue, crashing into a car that had a green light in the intersection, Hoso said.

When the vehicle stopped one block farther east, Wells and a passenger fled on foot, with Hoso catching Wells.

Patrolman Ben Harrell captured the passenger, a 23-year-old Warren man whose name was not released, a few blocks away at Lowell Avenue and High Street Northeast.

Both suspects were taken to the Trumbull County jail to face charges Tuesday in Warren Municipal Court. The court will be closed Monday because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

A gun charge is likely because of a weapon found in the vehicle, Hoso said.

Harrell said the woman in the other car did not appear to have life-threatening injuries.
