AUSTINTOWN
Some new faces were introduced along with the promotion of some veterans at Monday night’s township trustee meeting.
The newest trustee, Rick A. Stauffer, took the oath of office in a ceremony before the regular meeting. Stauffer was appointed to the position by fellow trustees James Davis and Lisa Oles at the beginning of January.
At the regular meeting, members of the Austintown Police Department were commended for their work during a busy last few weeks, and Jeffrey M. Solic was promoted to detective lieutenant.
“With [Solic] in charge of our detective division, I think that division is going in the right direction and our police department is going in the right direction,” chief Bob Gavalier said.
Trustees commended Solic for his work as commander of the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force.
The trustees also approved the hiring of two reserve officers to the department, Chase Lemke and Richard Lett, who also took their oaths at the meeting.
The trustees also adopted a resolution that opens the door for the first house — 3889 New Road — to be demolished under the Moving Ohio Forward grant given to the township at a price of $3,543. At the recommendation of zoning head Darren Crivelli, the trustees also approved the contracting of Howland Company, LLC, to do demolition work for the township.
Also at the meeting, road-department head Mike Dockry said because of dramatically different weather conditions, the department used 1,500 tons less slag in 2012 than was used in 2011, according to year-end reports, and 150 tons less cold patch for the roads in 2012.
