The father of Victoria Allen’s daughter says Allen is in a coma, in critical condition and has broken bones in St. Elizabeth Health Center after a pedestrian/vehicle accident.
Allen was hit by a Time Warner cable company van at 5:42 p.m. Friday on U.S. Route 422.
LeSean Harvey said Allen, 25, of 4420 Youngstown Road SE, was walking from his apartment across Route 422 to get food at Arby’s and was in the center lane of the road’s five lanes of traffic when she was hit.
Warren police said the Time Warner van, driven by Mark L. Green, 23, of Woodland Trail, Cortland, was traveling east on Route 422 and turned into the center lane in preparation to turn left at the North Road intersection when he struck Allen.
Time Warner’s offices are on Route 422 just west of the accident location, and Harvey said a witness told him the van had just left the Time Warner offices.
Time Warner released a statement, saying that its “thoughts and prayers are with the individuals involved,” and that the company is working with investigating authorities.
Police said the cause of the accident was Allen’s improperly crossing Route 422.
A witness in a car traveling in the area told police she saw the van hit something in the road.
“We thought he ran over a box until we saw the person on the road,” the witness said.
“Thank God our daughter wasn’t with her,” Harvey said of the 2-year-old girl. Allen had come over Friday and stayed at his apartment while he went out for a while.
When he returned, Allen left the girl with him while she walked across Route 422 to get food, he said.
Allen doesn’t drive because she doesn’t have a license, Harvey said.
