Snake clings to plane wing on Australian flight

SYDNEY

This snake on a plane had a turbulent flight.

Stunned Qantas Airways passengers watched out their windows Thursday as a large python clung to a plane’s wing during a two-hour flight from Australia’s northeastern city of Cairns to Papua New Guinea.

The 10-foot python fought to stay on the wing, pulling itself forward only to be pushed back by the frigid wind.

Passenger Robert Weber videotaped the struggle and told Australia’s Fairfax Media that the wind whipping the snake against the side of the plane left a bloody smear.

The python managed to hang on until the plane landed in Port Moresby, but a Qantas spokesman said the creature was dead on arrival.

It was reminiscent of the 2006 Hollywood thriller “Snakes on a Plane.”

Nev. manager wants to change city’s ‘hamburger’ logo

HENDERSON, Nev.

The city manager in Henderson, Nev., says he wants to update the city’s logo after it was mistaken for a hamburger.

Jacob Snow tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal the logo is too detailed to reprint clearly on small items such as business cards.

He also says he doesn’t like the image’s saguaro cactus, which is not native to the Mojave Desert.

The circular logo was adopted in 1993 and features a mountain range, a lake, buildings and a golf course through the middle.

City spokesman Bud Cranor says the more than 14 separate colors on the image make it difficult to replicate.

Snow announced in August that he wanted to change the logo but says he wants to phase it out over time to keep costs down.

Ohio restaurant appeals for return of pet chicken

YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio

A western Ohio restaurant is trying to help a patron get his pet chicken back.

Peach’s Bar and Grill in Yellow Springs has offered a $100 reward for the safe return of the pet named “Falcon,” with no questions asked.

It says a customer tucked the live chicken into his backpack when he came in to watch a band perform Jan. 5.

But he says the pack with his chicken was stolen.

The Dayton Daily News reports that the customer said the chicken was his traveling companion.

No other information was available Friday.
