Health officials are trying to determine whether influenza caused the death of a child last weekend.
The Mahoning County Coroner’s office said Hunter Ewert, 4, was found unresponsive by his parents about 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
Paramedics transported him to Akron Children’s Hospital Beeghly Campus where he died an hour later.
According to a news release, Dr. Joseph Orr, a forensic pathologist, conducted an autopsy Monday. The release said “specimens from the autopsy will be sent to the Ohio State Department of Health to rule out influenza as a possible cause of death.”
Fire at townhouse

A Monday morning fire forced two teenage girls to a second story window ledge before they were rescued by firefighters.
Capt. Sal Ponzio said crews responded to a residential complex on the 1000 block of Patricia Drive shortly before 8 a.m.
The girls, 17 and 18, were sitting on the ledge with heavy smoke coming from the townhouse.
He said a ladder was used to rescue the females.
Crews also rescued a man asleep in the basement, the report said.
Ponzio said the fire was contained within 15 minutes.
He said an unattended stove caused the fire and the family did not have a working smoke detector.
He said the adjoining townhouses did not sustain any damage.
The family is staying with relatives.
Initiative reaches goal
VIENNA
The Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport’s Travel Bank- Air Service Initiative has exceeded its goal by reaching more than $6 million in non-binding pledges and other forms of interest from 230 businesses, organizations and individuals since the program began in September 2012.
The goal of the initiative was to get $3 million to $5 million in pledges supporting the return of daily scheduled commercial air service at the airport, said Dan Dickten, director of aviation.
The Travel Bank is a list of nonbinding pledges made by area businesses, organizations, large employers and individuals who travel frequently stating what each would spend annually on a new air service should it be initiated from the local airport, said Dickten.
Partners in the effort with the airport were the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, Salem Chamber, Mercer County and Lawrence County chambers and the Ashtabula Growth Partnership.
