Health officials are trying to determine whether influenza caused the death of a child last weekend.

The Mahoning County Coroner’s office said Hunter Ewert, 4, was found unresponsive by his parents around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. Paramedics transported him to Akron Children’s Hospital Beeghly Campus where he died an hour later.

According to a news release, Dr. Joseph Orr, a forensic pathologist, conducted an autopsy Monday. The release said “specimens from the autopsy will be sent to the Ohio State Department of Health to rule out influenza as a possible cause of death.”
