Evancho’s goal lifts Phantoms over Steel

CHICAGO

Zach Evancho’s tiebreaking goal 4:07 into the third period was the game-winner as the Youngstown Phantoms edged the Chicago Steel, 3-2, on Friday night at Edge Arena.

Nathan Walker and Alexander Dahl sandwiched first-period goals for the Phantoms (15-16-) around a goal by the Steel’s Ray Pigozzi.

Chicago (13-15-3) tied it in the second period on Daniel McNamara’s goal.

Evancho’s decisive goal came on an assist by Luke Stork.

Evancho assisted on the goals by Walker and Dahl. Daniel Renouf also was credited with an assist on the goal by Dahl.

Phantoms goalie Sean Romeo faced 34 shots and made 32 saves.

Steel goalie Alex Sakellaropoulos had 28 saves. Chicago pulled him for the final 68 seconds in an attempt to try to tie the game.

The Phantoms continue their weekend road trip tonight in Lincoln against the Stars.
