The Youngstown Area Chapter of the Embroiderers Guild of America recently met at the Holiday Inn for its annual meeting and holiday party.

Joanna Shepelevich conducted the installation of officers for 2013. They are Carole DeWitt, president; Ruth Ebert, second vice president; D. Todd Murdock, recording secretary; Mary Jane Brosko, assistant recording secretary; Charlotte Gengler, corresponding secretary; and Julia Kerner, treasurer. Laura Crawford, first vice president, was not present.

The party was organized by Gengler and Kerner with 30 members attending.

The mission of the guild is to stimulate appreciation and celebrate the heritage of embroidery by advancing the highest standards of excellence in its practice through education, exhibition, preservation, collection and research.

Projects during the year include stitching and filling bags for pediatric patients at local healthcare facilities, stitching Christmas ornaments for pediatric patients admitted to a Cleveland cancer hospital, stitching samplers for Habitat for Humanity families and other worthwhile projects.

Meetings take place the fourth Tuesday of each month January through September. The morning session begins at 10 a.m., and the evening session begins at 7:30 p.m., both at the IOOF Hall, Canfield.
