Shooting injures man in Howland

Police are investigating a Sunday afternoon shooting that sent a township man to the hospital.
According to Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV, the home- invasion shooting occurred about 1 p.m. in the Forest Grove Trailer Park. A man called 911 and said he’d been shot four times, the news station reported.
The man, whose name hasn’t been released, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

A North Avenue man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center on Sunday afternoon after injuring his shoulder while fleeing from a gunman.
The 39-year-old man told police he was in his vehicle at Himrod Avenue and North Lane about 2:20 p.m. when he saw a man that he knows following him. The victim pulled into a North driveway and the other man got out of his car and started shooting.
The victim fled, jumping over two fences to get to a relative’s home. He wasn’t struck by gunfire but did injure his shoulder when he fell jumping over one of the fences.

Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, the 117th elected and consecrated bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, is the keynote speaker at Youngstown State University’s Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 24.
The breakfast, in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center also includes the presentation of the annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Awards.
Tickets are $25 and $12 for students. Tickets go on sale Monday at the YSU Information and PC Lab on the second floor of Kilcawley Center. Group and table purchases will be handled through the YSU Office of Student Diversity Programs. The Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, 151 W. Wood St., will have a genealogy presentation at 1 p.m. Jan. 19.
The presentation will last one hour, followed by a scrapbooking workshop from 2 to 2:30 p.m. This is a free, student-sponsored event, yet donations are welcome. For reservations or questions, call 330-941-1314.
