Clarence R. Smith Jr. retires from Mahoning County elections board


YOUNGSTOWN β€” Clarence R. Smith Jr. retired as a member of the Mahoning County Board of Elections.

Smith of Boardman, a former 12-year county Republican chairman, announced today that he was leaving the board, effective immediately, after serving 15 years on it.

β€œHe’s truly had an impressive impact on the community and his service on the board will be missed,” said Mark Munroe, the elections board chairman and county GOP chairman.

Smith, appointed to the board in 1998, has considered retiring in the past couple of years, but wanted to stay through the presidential election.
