“The Simpsons” (7 p.m., Fox): Homer goes off the grid and gets all doomsday prepper.

“DOWNTON ABBEY” (9 p.m., PBS): Do we hear wedding bells? As the deliciously addictive period melodrama returns for a third season, formerly star-crossed lovers Mary (Michelle Dockery) and Matthew (Dan Stevens) are finally preparing to get hitched, and Cora’s mother (Shirley MacLaine) arrives from the U.S. for the big day. But not all is bliss: Robert (Hugh Bonneville) gets some bad news about an investment.

“the biggest loser” (9 p.m., nbc): She’s baaaack. Hard-core trainer Jillian Michaels returns to “The Biggest Loser” with her death stare still intact. And for the first time, the weight-loss show includes a few youngsters among its cast as it takes aim at childhood obesity.

“an amish murder” (9 p.m., lifetime): Ever wonder what Neve Campbell has been up to? Wonder no more. She surfaces tonight as a police chief in “An Amish Murder.” It’s a TV film about a gruesome case that triggers bad memories for her character.

Free photography workshops slated

The Davis Family YMCA on McClurg Road will offer free photography workshops Saturday and Jan. 19 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Instructor Richard Fisher will cover the basics of digital photo-graphy. Participants are encouraged to bring a DSLR or point-and-shoot camera to the class. Advanced reservations are required. Call 330-480-5656.

Hoyt will offer winter art classes

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

The Hoyt Center for the Arts’ winter class schedule will run from Jan. 15 to March 9. Numerous art- related classes are planned, which will include everything from painting to drawing and ceramics to stained glass. The schedule includes instruction in music, dance, language and writing.

New to the schedule is Eric Mastrangelo’s “Photography: On Assignment.” This class tackles subjects such as creative use of depth of field, shutter speed, flash and low-light photography and long exposures.

Scholarship awards are limited to one class per person per semester, but may be awarded to several individuals in one household. Many courses qualify for ACT 48 Continuing Education hours and meet homeschooling requirements.

The Hoyt is open Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
