Swimmers break records, beat Massillon Perry

Connor Brady, Theresa Mikolay, Olivia Williamson, Sarah Heaven, Briana O'Malley, Mallory Allen, Maggie Beistel and Drew Bennett all broke school records during a recent Canfield swim meet.

Several school records fell as the Canfield swim team swept Massillon Perry in a dual meet to end the 2012 portion of the season. The girls claimed 117.5-67.5 victory, while the boys scored a 138-42 triumph.

The team of Sarah Heaven, Theresa Mikolay, Mallory Allen and Olivia Williamson led the way by setting a new school mark in the 200 meter medley. The quartet of Maggie Beistel, Briana O’Malley, Mikolay and Williamson came back to break the record in the 200 meter free relay.

Allen claimed two individual school records, by winning the 100-meter butterfly and the 400-meter free.

Other individual winners were Heaven (200-meter IM, 100-meter backstroke), Williamson (50-meter free), Beistel (100-meter free) and Ally Chiu (diving). The 400-meter freestyle relay team of Heaven, Beistel, Williamson and Allen also claimed gold.

Finishing second in their events were Leslie Davis (200 free and 400 free), Briana O’Malley (200 IM), Theresa Mikolay (100 breaststroke, school record). Maggie Beistel (200 free), Mikolay (50 free), Jamie Wellham (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke), Erin Loomis (400 free) and Megan Gocala (100 breaststroke) each finished third.

In boys action, Drew Bennett (400 free) and Connor Brady (100 back) each set new school records to lead the Cards.

Events Canfield won were 200 meter medley relay (Adam Weiss, Kyle Anderson, Connor Brady, Michael DiDomenico), 200-meter free (Daniel Bogen), 200-meter IM (Kyle Anderson), 50 free (Mike Cardone), 100 fly (Brady), 100 free (Daniel Bogen), 200 free relay (Michael DiDomenico, Kyle Anderson, Nicky Montalto, Daniel Bogen), 100 breaststroke (Michael DiDomenico) and 400 free relay (Connor Brady, Drew Bennett, Nicky Montalto, Daniel Bogen).
