Speech and debate team talking the talk

The Canfield Speech and Debate Team won its first seven regular season varsity tournaments of the season, including three impressive performances in December. Heading into the 2013 portion of its schedule, team members have earned a combined 197 individual trophies for their performances.
The Cards bested 22 other teams at the Howland Holiday Tournament on Dec. 15, winning Team Sweepstakes honors. The effort was led by first-place finishes by Tim Nesnidol (Humor), Lydia Scheel (Drama), Gary Zamary (Impromtu) and Andrik Massaro (Lincoln-Douglas Debate).
Dominique Favre (Humor) and the duo of Julie Gemmel and Rayann Atway (Public Forum Debate) each took second in their respective categories. Bailey Sandin (Lincoln-Douglas Debate) took third, while Katelyn Baltes (Original Oratory) and Mike Sorice (U.S. Extemp.) were fourth.
Kareem Soliman and Kevin Min teamed up for fifth in Public Debate Forum, while Mia Battaglia (Oratorical Interpretation), Arjun Subramanyam (U.S. Extemp.) and Sara Lytle (Lincoln-Douglas Debate) each took sixth. Angela Pupino was seventh in Impromptu.
The team next competes today at its home tournament at Canfield High School.
