Boardman Park hosted the Elegant String Quartet, a musical group that performs separately in such ensembles as the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and Ashtabula Orchestra, as well as giving lessons in private studios, on Dec. 15 at the St. James Meeting House.

This was the group’s seventh concert at the park, where they perform annually.

The quartet is comprised of two violins played by Bob Pavalko and Allison Harris, one viola, played by Sharyn Scheetz, and one cello, played by Kathi French. At this concert, the quartet was also joined by vocalist Lori Reighn Matta.

The quartet played may classic holiday tunes, such as “Joy to the World,” “Angels We Have Heard On High”, “What Child Is This?,” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” The quartet also performed a few non-traditional holiday pieces, such as Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s “Christmas Canon” and the theme from “The Polar Express”.

The group invited all in attendance to join Matta in singing “Silent Night” toward the end of their performance,

While this was the only winter concert the Elegant String Quartet will perform this year, they play for weddings, parties, in banquet halls, or backyards. To learn more, visit http://elegantstringquartet.tripod.com.
