Trustees likely to award contract for storm-water project

BOARDMAN
Township trustees are expected to hear a recommendation from a local engineer Thursday and then award a contract for a long-awaited storm sewer project.
Trustees opened the bids for Phase II of the 2013 Boardman Lake detention basin and Aylesboro Avenue storm-sewer project last month and asked engineer Gary D’orio to review the information for their first January meeting, set for 4 p.m. Thursday.
Eight local companies submitted bids ranging from $378,550 to $660,550. The project was proposed nearly a decade ago after severe flooding tore through the township in 2003.
In fall 2011, the Ohio Department of Develop-ment approved a 3-percent interest loan of about $250,000 for Boardman to undertake two storm-water projects. That, combined with grants from the Ohio Public Works Commission, is covering the project cost.
The first part of the project was a series of culvert replacements on West Parkside Drive, Melrose Avenue and Applecrest Drive. The second phase, which will be addressed at the trustee meeting, calls for the widening of the Boardman Lake detention basin and installation of the Aylesboro Avenue storm sewer.
Culverts under the existing roads, Aylesboro, Melbourne and Brookfield avenues, also are set to be replaced.
